Joseph Papich walks into every room with the kind of smile that immediately puts people at ease. It is warm, genuine, and full of the same generous spirit he brings to his work, his community, and the people around him. If you’ve spent any time with JP, you already know: his passion for helping others is real, and it shows up everywhere. And honestly, if you aren’t inspired by JP and the way he gives back, you might need to check your pulse.
Professionally, Joseph serves as Assistant Vice President, Employee Benefits Advisor at WWW Insurance, an IMA Company, where he helps employers implement strategic benefit programs that attract and retain employees. But for him, it is about much more than plans and policies. At the heart of his work is a desire to help people better understand a system that can often feel overwhelming and backwards. As he puts it, much of his day is spent educating employers and employees on how to lower costs and improve outcomes—because in the U.S. healthcare system, high cost does not always mean higher quality.
That commitment to education and empowerment extends far beyond his day job. One recent win Joseph is especially proud of was co-hosting St. Pete’s Big Give on Giving Tuesday, where 100 Good Guys and 100 Women Who Care generated $50,000 in charitable giving in a single night, largely through $100 donations. It was the kind of impact that proves what can happen when community members come together in a meaningful way—and it also earned him well-deserved recognition as a Community Leader Award recipient at the holiday party.
Joseph credits Leadership St. Pete with shaping how he leads and serves today. One of his biggest takeaways from the program was the importance of staying curious, asking questions, and seeking understanding. For him, that mindset is what leads to creative solutions and true win-win outcomes. It is a perspective that clearly continues to guide both his professional approach and his community involvement.
One area he is especially passionate about right now is healthcare literacy, which he sees as one of the biggest determinants of both health outcomes and cost in the United States. To help address that, he is launching a new education series on LinkedIn and hopes others will follow along and learn with him.
When it comes to community impact, Joseph is deeply invested in causes that create pathways to prosperity. Through 100 Good Guys, he and others work to spotlight nonprofits that are making a difference and increasing opportunities for people in St. Pete. In a city that is rapidly changing, he believes many men connect strongly with the idea of being providers—and that there is something deeply meaningful about giving others the chance to experience that kind of selfless fulfillment. He also wishes more people understood just how many urgent needs exist right here in our community. As he points out, 100 Good Guys learns about new ones every quarter. That is exactly why giving nonprofits a platform to share their work matters: sometimes all it takes is showing up and listening to discover the cause that speaks to you.
And if you are looking for proof of the lasting power of the LSP network, Joseph will tell you plainly: without LSP, 100 Good Guys – St. Pete would not exist today. Because of the relationships and connections built through the program, the group has now generated more than $150,000 in local charitable giving. They are always open to welcoming new members with the heart—and the $100—to give each quarter.
Since graduating, Joseph has stayed connected to LSP and LSPAA both personally and professionally. WWW Insurance continues to sponsor every LSP class, and through that alignment, he has been fortunate to maintain strong relationships with the program and alumni network.
Outside of work and service, Joseph’s answers are just as delightful as you’d expect. His best hidden gem recommendation for alumni visiting town is Nitally’s ThaiMex, now on MLK—still amazing, still whimsical, and currently a household favorite. Lately, he has been recommending Chuck Melandri’s Disruptive Dialogue podcast to anyone interested in understanding how healthcare in the U.S. could be improved. His perfect Saturday? Watching the sunrise over the bay, swimming in the gulf or at Speer Y, grabbing tacos with his husband, taking a nap outside, and ending the evening with a walk through downtown along Beach Drive, The Pier, and Central Avenue for food, shopping, dessert, and time with friends. And on his bucket list: seeing penguins in Antarctica—preferably from the warmth of a jacuzzi on a cruise ship, which is honestly a pretty great way to dream.
As for the best advice he has ever received, it is simple and memorable: “Pour from your saucer, not your cup.” And his advice to a new LSP class member carries that same spirit of openness and self-awareness: Be yourself and be open. There is so much to discover about yourself and St. Pete, so be open to the discovery.
