Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Sheron Brown, LSP Class of 20GR8TEEN
Dr. Sheron Brown, the Director of Education & Youth Opportunities for the City of St. Petersburg, has been a dynamic force in shaping the future of the city’s youth. A proud graduate of Leadership St. Pete’s Class of 2018 (20GR8TEEN), "the Best Class Ever," Dr. Brown has continuously demonstrated her passion for community building and education. With over two decades of leadership experience in health and education, she now leads the Mayor’s Education & Youth Opportunities Agenda, a cornerstone of the city's Pillars of Progress. Her role is dedicated to creating an environment where youth can thrive through accessible opportunities, mentorship, career readiness, and holistic support systems that ensure their success.
Dr. Brown's dedication to community service is evident through her roles within the Leadership St. Pete Alumni Association. Serving on the LSPAA Board since 2019, she recently completed a term as President, where she worked with the board to co-create a renewed purpose statement and helped revive membership post-COVID. Her leadership helped reengage alumni who had been disconnected for years, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.
Professionally, Dr. Brown’s approach is grounded in collaborative leadership. She works closely with business leaders, nonprofits, the school system, faith communities, and, most importantly, the youth themselves, to build equitable opportunities for all. Her recent visit to SailFuture, the class project for her LSP class, left her inspired by their continued growth and the new opportunities they are offering to youth across St. Petersburg.
When she's not advancing the future of St. Pete’s youth, Dr. Brown enjoys exploring her new home, practicing yoga, and walking on the beach. Looking ahead, she plans to develop a city-wide initiative ensuring that every St. Pete youth has access to life-changing opportunities aligned with their strengths and aspirations, while also considering a return to teaching yoga, a passion that connects her to personal and communal wellbeing.
