LSPAA Spotlight: Mark Sprague, Class of 2020

Deputy Director, St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport (PIE)

Mark Sprague is a proud member of the Leadership St. Pete Class of 2020 — a class known not just for its resilience, but for its creativity and community impact. Since graduating, Mark has remained deeply engaged with LSPAA, serving on the Planning Committee (2021–2023), joining the Board of Directors in 2022, and stepping into leadership as Vice President for 2024–2025 and incoming President for 2025–2026.

Professionally, Mark serves as Deputy Director at St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport, where he oversees five major departments: Operations, Services, Facilities, Airport Rescue and Firefighting, and Information Technology. He’s also a key decision-maker for construction projects and ensures the airport remains in compliance with all federal and state regulations.

Leadership in Action

Ask Mark what his class project was, and you’ll hear a story of adaptability and innovation. “Our class may be the longest in LSP history — but our project was also the most far-reaching,” he says. Initially focused on renovating Family Resources, Inc., the Class of 2020 had to pivot when COVID-19 hit. Instead of pausing, they expanded their scope — donating funds, supporting the City’s Fighting Chance Fund, hosting virtual leadership events, launching a community calendar, and even painting a downtown mural.

Their creative response rippled across St. Petersburg, leaving a lasting legacy. As Mark puts it, “We are truly THE BEST CLASS EVER!”

Life Beyond the Airport

Outside of his leadership roles, Mark is a hands-on DIY enthusiast who enjoys kayaking, beach walks, and cheering on the Tampa Bay Rays. Looking ahead, his goals remain rooted in service: “Next up? Becoming Executive Director at PIE and continuing to give back to others.”

Mark's commitment to servant leadership and local impact embodies everything LSPAA stands for!
