Sunlight Feature - TI Sport Kite Festival
25th Annual Treasure Island Sport Kite Competition and Festival
What can you do on a beautiful sunny day in the middle of winter, with a slight wind in the air?
Pull up a chair, sit back, and relax, while watching more than one hundred kites move to the beat of the breeze over the sandy white beaches of Treasure Island.
The free event took place on January 15th and 16th from 10AM until sunset. The event included dual-line and multi-line sport kite flying competition, kite ballet routines and a hot tricks competition to music. For curious enthusiasts who wished to get involved, stunt kite flying lessons were provided for FREE!
If you have never attended a kite competition and festival, I encourage you to get in touch with your inner child and check out this event next year. It's an unforgettable experience.
Kite festivals are popular around the world, from Asia to Europe to South America, and have been for hundreds of years. But did you know, kites have practical uses too - for science, meteorology, radio aerials, and light beacons? Amazingly, underwater kites are now being developed to harvest renewable power from the flow of water.
So, when you venture out to this incredible event next year, embrace the moment knowing kites serve a greater purpose.
